In the heart of the Côte de Nuits, Gevrey- Chambertin is the area with the highest concentration of red Grands Crus of which the legendary Chambertin and Chambertin-Clos- de- Bèze, great favorites of Napoleon. It is even said that the Emperor made his men salute when passing by these venerable vines. The wines of Gevrey- Chambertin, only red, are very sought after for their great strength and velvetness.

Wine notes:
Intense, perfumed bouquet with fruit aromas and an animal touch. Nice structure and lovely fleshiness. Good ageing potential.

Know- how:
Working the vines: The grapes come from the Domaine or through purchase contracts. Bouchard Père & Fils works in a spirit of close collaboration with its partners, to whom it passes on all its knowledge and savoir- faire so as to obtain a harvest that respects its quality requirements.

Vinification and maturing: Depending on the profile of the vintage, vatting lasts 8 to 15 days, then maturing for 8 to 14 months in French oak barrels, with 20 to 40% new barrels.

Aging wine: These wines enjoy the optimum ambient conditions in the cellars of the Bastions of the ancient Château de Beaune.

Dark fruited, just a touch reductive perhaps, with plenty of sweet oak spice. Smooth and easy to miss the density in the middle. Bonedry, long, ‘masculine’ finish. Drink 2017 to 2027. Superior. Score: 17 (out of 20) (Julia Harding, MW, jancisrobinson.com, Jan. 24, 2012)

This pale, youthful pinot sports a particular florality and blackcurrant fruit I am coming to associate with Gevrey, plus haunting spice and vague clove complexity, plus oak spice. Its medium weight, nicely formed and compact with mid palate charm and a leaner stony, dusty finish. Very focused; excellent length. Age it 2016 to 2020“. Score: 91 (David Lawrason, WineAlign.com)
