Bodegas Beronia tempranillo, rioja
LCBO No. 243055
Bodegas Beronia is situated in Ollauri, in the Rioja Alta. It has been owned by the Gonzalez Byass group since 1982. Its majestic tower commands a sweeping view of the estate’s 55 year-old vineyards, where the best Tempranillo, Graciano, Garnacha and Viura grape varieties are grown.
Beronia has made its name from quality wines which reflect the soil’s unique characteristics. The secret to their success is a balance between cutting-edge technology and traditional wine-making methods.
Specially selected Tempranillo grapes ferment in temperature controlled tanks for 14 days to obtain good extraction of colour and tannins. After 6 more days of maceration the wine is moved to new or second use mixed American and French oak barrels where it spends 6 months.
Marron red with cherry tones. Profound on the nose with rich notes of mature red fruits and liquorice on a base of spice. Sweet and very fruity palate. Round and velvety with volume and long finish.
“Aged for seven months in French and American oak barrels, the 2009 Tempranillo has a wonderful, cedar-tinged bouquet that evokes a fine Medoc! It is well-defined and pure, with notes of blackberry and bilberry. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a caressing silky texture. It glides effortlessly to its black cherry and plum finish. This is very fine indeed! Drink now-2016. Rating: 90” Neal Martin, Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate #202
“Fabulous hidden values sleeping on shelves”
“This new general listing is a superb red. It’s not a heavyweight, but elegant and poised. Minty black cherry, smoke, sandalwood, cola, coconut and mahogany aromas. The mellow minty flavours show vanilla, coconut, cola, red currants and plum with a sandalwood finish. Food suggestion: Lamb kebabs. Rating: 90” Gord Stimmell, Toronto Star
