El Alma de jonata 2008, santa ynez

“The 2008 El Alma de Jonata is dazzling. It possesses striking inner perfume, fresh, beautifully delineated fruit and world-class elegance. Layers of plush, dark fruit caress the palate in this pedigreed wine. The 80% new barrels are felt in the wine’s breadth and richness, but there is enough fruit to handle the oak. In 2008 the blend is 75% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020”. 95 points (Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate)

El desafio de jonata 2007, santa ynez

“The profound 2007 El Desafio de Jonata (a 500-case blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, aged in 85% new French oak and 15% old wood) is the reference point for Cabernet Sauvignon in Santa Ynez. Blueberry liqueur, graphite, acacia flower, and creme de cassis aromas are followed by a wine with great stature, medium to full-bodied power, awesome layers of flavor, and a finish that lasts nearly 60 seconds. The tannins are substantial, but well-integrated and velvety, and the wine is impressively long and layered”. 95-97 points (Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate)

sangre de jonata 2008, santa ynez

“The 2008 La Sangre de Jonata is a huge, opulent wine. Layers of blue and black fruit, graphite and licorice flow from this large-scaled, muscular Syrah. This is a super-ripe style that needs a few years in bottle to settle down. It is also the only wine I tasted where the alcohol is slightly intrusive. La Sangre de Jonata is 98% Syrah and 2% Viognier. The wine was aged in medium-sized barrels, 50% new. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022”. 95 points (Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate)

“A big, ripe vintage, northern Rhône style syrah, with masses of dark, fresh black fruit, cold cream, black pepper, and resinous herbs. On the palate the tannins are fine grained, firm and nicely chiseled. A sumptuous, generous yet balanced example, with very good length all in all; really top notch wine. Cellar for 4-6 years to broaden and lengthen the palate”. 95 points (John Szabo MS, WineAlign.com

La fuerza de jonata 2006, santa ynez

Petit Verdot: Impenetrable black color. A seeming abyss in the glass. Hedonistic nose of black fruit, cedar, espresso bean and sanguine notes. Sweet vanilla and baking spices combined with meaty and gamey nuances. Glass staining; velvety and rich in the mouth. Subtle tannins sneak up until they gently envelope the entire palate, but somehow leave just enough room for the seemingly endless finish of vibrant black fruit to shine through.

la tierra de jonata 2008, santa ynez

The 2008 Tierra is predominantly Sangiovese, with the addition of 6% Syrah, which the estate uses to give the wine a little more mid-palate density, not a bad thing in a cooler year like 2008. Sweet wild cherries, leather, licorice and tobacco are woven together beautifully in this generous, inviting wine. The French oak (40% new) is a little prominent at this stage, but this is nevertheless a lovely effort. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018″. 92 points (Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate)

jonata fenix 2007, santa ynez

A blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Made from tiny yields, it exhibits plenty of mocha, coffee bean, black cherry, and chocolaty characteristics, full-bodied richness, intense flavors, good acidity, and substantial, but ripe tannins. The 2007 should evolve over a twenty year period”. 92-94 points (Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate)

Ojai white hawk syrah 2007, santa maria

“The 2007 Syrah White Hawk is round, sweet and harmonious. Plums, smoke, licorice are some of the notes that emerge from this rich, deep Syrah. There is plenty of power and structure supporting the fruit all the way through to the long, persistent finish. This is texturally brilliant and striking. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022.” 93 points (Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate)

ojai presidio pinot noir 2008, santa maria

“The 2008 Pinot Noir Presidio impresses for its highly nuanced inner perfume and silky tannins, both of which serve to add considerable complexity to the bold fruit. This is a truly striking, beautiful wine. Presidio is a biodynamically farmed vineyard. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020.” 92 points (Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate)
